One of the more unique wines of the world, Pinotage was created in South Africa in 1925 to strengthen the character of Pinot Noir. This flower cross and seedling selection, produces a wine which balances the characteristics of hot and spicy foods with its soft tannins. Aromas in the 2007 vintage include crushed herbs, spices, potpourri, and leather. You should defentialy pick up on the darker, earthier qualities of this wine, as it sometimes comes across as a little bit musty. Black fruit, cedar, oak, and vanilla finish off this excellent food pairing wine.
